Digital Citizenship

Building Digital Competencies for Citizen Participation and Engagement

What is Digital Citizen?

DigitalCitizen is a 36-month Erasmus+ project dedicated to strengthening digital citizenship skills within higher education. As universities increasingly operate in a digitally driven society, students and staff need to understand their rights, responsibilities and vulnerabilities online. DigitalCitizen addresses this need by focusing on three key pillars of digital citizenship: legal literacy, data literacy and protection literacy. Through an innovative 4D flipped-classroom model, the project will deliver micro-learning units and interactive mini-games that make complex topics accessible and engaging. By combining academic expertise, co-creation with learners and playful learning tools, DigitalCitizen empowers the academic community to participate confidently and responsibly in digital democratic life.

about Digital Citizenship

Project Aims & Expected Impact

DigitalCitizen aims to embed innovative teaching methods and high-quality digital literacy content into higher education. The project will equip students and educators with the knowledge needed to understand digital rights, protect personal data, identify misinformation and navigate online environments safely. Its goal is to strengthen digital resilience and promote informed participation in democratic processes.

Empowering Higher Education Through Digital Citizenship Skills

Over the course of the project, DigitalCitizen will upskill more than 400 members of the HE community and reach over 1,000 participants through workshops, hackathons and training actions. By providing adaptable learning resources and practical tools, the project supports long-term integration of digital citizenship education into university programmes and contributes to building a digitally aware and empowered society.
